QAIRLIIT (HARP SEALS) 2009
Serigraph
Size: 7.25 x 30 in — 18.4 x 76.2 cm

Tim Pitsiulak (1967-2016) was an Inuk artist and hunter best known for his large coloured-pencil drawings of Arctic scenery, wildlife and Inuit culture.

He was the nephew of Kenojuak Ashevak, who was the most famous of all Inuit print artists.

QAIRLIIT is a magnificent homage to the Harp Seal, an animal that the Inuit have heavily relied upon for centuries.

Sadly, Tim passed away unexpectantly at the age of 49 at the peak of his career.

His work is becoming more and more difficult to acquire.

The Inuit have hunted harp seals, bearded seals, ringed seals and harbour seals for thousands of years. They have great respect for the spirit of the seal.
