LOVE OF THE ART portrays an Inuit scene that is seldom discussed.
How does the stone get to the Inuit Carvers?
The reality is that the Inuit carvers must travel long miles often under dangerous conditions to saw or chip stone from open quarries.
This is difficult, back breaking work.
And one can only cut a piece that a man or two can lift onto a sled.
A Sled connected to a skidoo, not a dog.
The emotions that this carving releases cannot be over emphasized.
Carvers have a difficult time being a stone artist.
Kelly Qimirpik (1948-2017) was one of Canada's top Inuit Master Carvers.
It has been over eight years since Kelly passed, which means that his carvings are extremely difficult to find in galleries.
At best, you would have to search the Auction houses for his pieces.
This could easily be the most inspirational Inuit carving you will see this year.
