The inlayed eyes are Goota Ashoona and Bob Kussy's raison d'etre and contribution to the Inuit art world. There is no artist that has mastered this gruelling technique quite like them. Fitting eyes into the stone takes much experience and skill. It is the eye catching colors of the eyes that bring his pieces to life.
Goota Ashoona and Bob Kussy had had many prestigious commissions, including presentation to the National Art museum of Canada.
They are in the premier elite circle of not just master carvers, but premier Master carvers like Abraham Ruben.
This monumental work is possibly unique in Goota Ashoona and Bob Kussy 's oevre in that it strays from more medium sized pieces. They have created an impressive body of sculptures depicting human figures and other animals as well, but it is their affinity with the owl that has captured the imagination of collectors.
