When I first laid eyes on Eyaituk’s loon, the dark green argelite stone made my heart race.

The stone is pure and its texture is sultry. Its hard not to want to run your hands over the stone to feel its cool smooth texture. The wide bands of dark green give the stone a military “camouflage” appearance as if the bird was a decoy.

But make no mistake. This bird is not a decoy.

This loon is sophisticated and compelling. The curves, proportions and lines of the carving are so spectacular. The etched lines that define the feathers and the face of the bird are delicate and refined.
