A mother protecting her babies from danger, is always an emotional event.

This sculpture provokes every one of those deep emotions.

The young bird has a look of curiosity and mischief on his face which provides some comic relief from the serious subject of the Mother-Child bond.

Joanasie Manning is a superb Master Carver.  His owls are a cornerstone of my gallery. 

What is it about Inuit artists and Owls?

It seems that each Owl carver has a signature piece which has become the foundation of his successful career.

When I see Joanasie's owls, these words come to mind: unfaltering, staunch, devoted, dependable.

Joanasie often sculpts a Mother owl protecting her chicks under her large spread wings or he shows us a solitary owl, squatting on the ground with folded wings and huge innocent eyes.
