This is not only a classic Jimmy Iqaluq Loon, but quite frankly, it is one of the nicest loons that I have ever seen.
Each year, Jimmy produces one of his signature loon carvings that is more voluptuous, more sophisticated and more desirable then any of his previous loons.
The rounded head is sumptuous. The slightly up tilted head bestows an intelligent personality to the bird. See how the light is reflected off the head, highlighting the inky black argillite stone. The stone is smooth and sultry.
I want to point out the matte gray stone of the breast and the exquisitely detailed carving of the body feathers!! These feathers are an essential element of Jimmy’s loons. The realistic appearance of the loons are a direct consequence of the lines and fastidious detail of the body.
But the one feature that tells the viewer that THIS is a Jimmy Iqaluq loon, is the iconic red eyes( carved from a different rock that Jimmy collects from the seashore, the eyes are inserted separately). Just as Christian Louboutin is associated with his red soled shoes, Jimmy is recognized for his red eyes. He often uses them for other carvings like his bears and walruses. I had one loon that sported the most impressive red feet. I still kick myself for not acquiring that loon for my small personal collection.
This particular loon is 10 inches long which is a larger piece for one of Jimmy’s loons.
Any serious Inuit art collector must have an Iqaluq loon amongst his/her pieces.
The piece de resistance for a devoted collector is owning a Iqaluq scene or vignette. I am so fortunate to have one of the most unique vignettes for sale in the gallery. See “Polar Bear Hunt” on the first page of New Arrivals.
Jimmy is one of five elite Inuit Master Carvers in Canada. He has an international presence. His carvings are highly valued and sought after.
DO NOT miss this opportunity to own this revered loon sculpture.

The eyes are red (they are inserted, carved out of a different rock, Jimmy gets this red rock from a seashore)
To give a brief overview of this sculpture is like trying to describe why a beautiful woman is so beautiful. The picture speaks for itself. What I can say is this carving is from Jimmy Iqaluq. He is famous for his loons as one sits in Ottawa's national art museum of fine arts. He is among the 5 elite Inuit artists in Canada and has exhibitions that have toured all over the world. His pieces are valued very highly.
