When I first laid eyes on Hercules, my first thought was "Now this is a bear".

Large and muscular, massive shoulders and huge paws and feet.  He may appear to be slow and lumbering, but this is a dangerous animal capable of death and destruction.

After all, he IS a bear.

But for our purposes as art lovers, Hercules is a stunning walking bear.

The golden caramel colour is takes your breath away. 

There is an underlying deep green colour which caresses the caramel and gives Hercules depth and complexity. The finish is polished to a mirror shine.

So beautiful.

Matt's carving is superlative.  The curves, the proportion and the details of this bear are simply perfect.

Don't you love how Matt has positioned the front right paw in a flexed posture which gives a sense of motion to Hercules?

This walking bear is magnificent.
