At the gallery, we concede this carving to be a museum calibre piece. We boldly assert this sculpture should be part of a collectors collection, especially a rarity in the sense that it is a smaller more affordable piece in comparison to his larger masterpieces. 

This owl is perfect; from the intense dark blue green stone to the startled flapping motion of the wings.  The inlayed eyes are wide and piercing. The observer can’t be sure whether this noble bird has just landed or is it alarmed and preparing to take flight.

Palaya’s owls are in great demand and are coveted by Inuit art galleries and collectors.

Palaya Qiatsuq (1960)

Palaya Qiatsuq was born in Cape Dorset and began carving around 1977. He learned to carve from his father, the well known sculptor and print maker Lukta Qiatsuk. Palaya works in soapstone and bone, and carves each sculpture with much attention to detail.
