Masterpiece Sculpture! Magnificent Movement!
Does anyone else see this incredible carving and immediately think of butterscotch ripple ice cream?
Taylor has simultaneously stimulated my visual interest and my craving for sugar!
This is one of those carvings that wins on two levels.
The obvious feature is the stunning vein pattern on the beautiful white Wonderstone.
And the second feature is the sculpture itself.
Take a long look at all the views of this magnificent bear.
This is a perfect realistic representation of a polar bear BUT what sets this sculpture apart from the others, is the posture of the bear as it climbs up on the ice.
I focussed the camera on the hind end of the bear because Derrald has so nicely captured the muscles and details of the back legs, tail and rump of Butterscotch as the bear negotiates the ice.
You can feel the power the bear is exerting as it pulls its large body up this steep slope.
Let me tell you also, that this stone is exquisite when bathed in light.
The bear looks so realistic you expect him to be soft to the touch.
Taylor has earned himself a spot among the ranks of today's top master carvers like Ruben Komangapik.
His sense of motion, dynamics, and movement are exceptional and a testament to the talents one must possess to be considered among the great Inuit artists.
