Jonasie Faber is a master Inuit carver from Greenland who now resides in Princeton, BC. He moved to Denmark when he was ten and became a Deep Sea Navigator at the Danish Naval Academy. He moved to Canada at the age of thirty and imported Greenland Inuit art. Unlike many of our Canadian Inuit artists, Jonasie has travelled widely but carves in a fashion that reflects his Inuit culture.

His carvings are meticulously detailed with a primitive but sophisticated style. Stalking bears and muskox are two of his preferred subjects.

This golden yellow sitting bear is exquisite. The more I look at this apparently motionless bear, the more I see movement in his front paws and the beginning of a bear “smile” on his face. Is Sitting bear a juvenile bear or an old wise bear? I just couldn’t define the true essence of this bear which to me, makes him dynamic and exciting.

Jonasie is internationally famous. His carvings have been sold by Sothebys and Waddingtons and New York’s large auction houses. This is a rare opportunity to acquire this special carving for your collection. I have only had one other Faber in my gallery in twelve years.

This Sitting bear is an investment opportunity for the serious Inuit art collector.
