Parr Parr has conceived a theme that makes this his own - snow goggles.
What are they you ask? Snow goggles were used by the Inuit to deflect the strong sun reflection from the snow. Up north, the sun is particularly strong, and its solar rays are greatly amplified by the bright white snow. So much so, that without these goggles, you can barely see as if you are looking directly into the sun.
The slits carved into the goggles shield the eyes from the sun while allowing the Inuit to see just enough. This is just one of many creations the Inuit came up with which greatly showcase their ingenuity and resourcefulness.
At the gallery, this is the first time we saw a carving in this subject matter. It is very interesting, unique and captures a time in history of how the Inuit lived.
