Provenance, September 2019: Sadly, Pavinak recently took his own life away. He was a pillar for the Inuit art community and was well known for his gentle and jolly caribous. This caribou came back from another gallery that closed down. This is one of the last caribous by the late Pavinak Petaulassie.

This is a gorgeous rendition of a caribou. The sense of balance, crisp lines and coloration are punctuated by the inlaid eyes. This feature lends itself to a strengthened character and prodigious intensity.

This stunning caribou was carved by master Inuit carver Pavinak Petaulassie from the Inuit community Cape Dorset.

Pavinak is well known internationally for his caribous. This is his signature carving. I always liked caribou carvings because they are nice animals in general. The beautiful bone antlers contrast nicely with the dark stone. It is a very positive subject and sends happy vibes to its surroundings.
