This is a stunning three dancing bear that can balance on three of its paws. Moe and Ottokie are some of the very few artists who have been able to accomplish this feet. Incredibly hard for a carver to perfect without having a stone base underneath.

Like so many of Pootoogook’s subjects, this jolly bear appears to be enjoying himself immensely. This dynamic sculpture is full of energy that radiates in all directions.

Mosesee Pootoogook is a Cape Dorset artist renowned for his bear sculptures. You will see many of his pieces in the Studio because I never tire of his art. Each piece is immaculately presented, each piece has its own personality.
Pootoogook’s bears frequently have an exaggerated body part. This piece has exceptionally long arms, gargantuan paws and a rotund tummy. This disproportional habitus gives the bear a cartoon like appearance and a happy disposition!

Finally, the black serpentine stone has a brilliant shine that immediately grabs your attention. Admirers of Inuit carving love their black carvings and a brilliant shine is often seen as being essential.
