Dancing Bear by Qavavau Ashoona

This is a large and impressive dancing bear by Inuit artist Qavavau Ashoona from Cape Dorset Nunavut.

What caught my eye originally about this this piece was its beautiful curvatures and lines. It is very rounded and chubby which adds mass to the carving. The green speckled color gives this piece an added dimension of texture and spacial awareness which really make it come to life.
