CURATOR'S CHOICE
A rare finding. This is a carving to which you have an immediate physical response.
Caretaker is dramatic.
The subject is unusual.
The stone colour and texture is warm and complex.
Caretaker had to be a CURATOR'S CHOICE.
Magnificent carving! Museum quality sculpture!
I saw this piece, and held my breath for a few seconds.
This is my visceral response to the rare combination of both beauty and genius.
Every Kuksuk carving I have seen has been dramatic, stunning in its execution and heart stopping.
The colour of the stone is a showstopper. The stone is rich, warm, complex, and the perfect selection for this piece.
I see a protective regal bird pulling on the hood of the Inuk's parka, in a loving gesture to cover his head while he sleeps.
A very maternal/paternal gesture.
Or perhaps the Inuk is injured and needs care.
The face of the Inuk could be its own sculpture.
Stunning.
How do you interpret Caretaker?
I strongly believe that one day this Kuksuk carving will find its way into a museum.
Imagine if you had it in your possession and you could love and admire it every day?
