Tiny Dancer is anything but tiny!
I love these Dancing walruses because it is so unlikely that these large "flabby" beasts could stand on their tail and dance that the idea is comical.
Not to say that I haven't seen some incredibly majestic Dancing walruses.
Tiny Dancer is a one of a kind sculpture.
Pits has used a modern and almost abstract approach to presenting this walrus.
The deep etching that adorns and tattoos the sculpture is modern but the curves and details of the piece are suggested more than realistic which is the abstract style.
Very unusual!
But this is true Pits Qimirpik. Innovative, creative and always surprising.
Pits Qimirpik has my respect.
He has earned his spot among the top ranks of Inuit carvers today.
