Masterpiece Carving! Museum quality Sculpture!
The image of mother and child summons up feelings of warmth, love and protection.
The Mother and Child image has been a strong symbolic motif of maternity and creativity throughout the history of art.
Qimirpik's Mother is kneeling and holding her child in her right arm. The child is facing outward with eyes wide open. Is she entertaining the child by showing him something or is she showing the child to someone?
This carving is winsome and peaceful.
The soft yellow and caramel coloured stone is comforting.
The two figures translate as one. The adult figure has closed eyes. Her head is slightly tilted back as if she were looking into the heavens. Is she praying or is she simply enjoying a quiet moment with the sun on her face?
For me, this precious carving is one of Pits' most delightful works of art.
