This is a beautifully carved apple green dancing bear made by Mosesee Pootoogook from Cape Dorset, Nunuvut.
This piece is quite large and chubby.
The torso is strong. His paws are the size of baseball mitts!
The body tapers quickly giving a cartoonish look to the bear. Joy and energy oozes from this piece. The movement and balance of Pootoogook’s dancing bear are particularly captivating
The electric green stone is flamboyant. I love these brilliant green stones. They are an exhilarating departure from the more common dark marbles. Every Inuit art collection benefits from a mixture of colours. Every colour of stone (chocolate browns, inky black, sophisticated gray) is refreshed with the addition of an apple green carving.
