Masterpiece Carving! Museum quality Sculpture!
George was part of the Great-West Life Insurance Inuit Collection.
The Vice President of Development George Dinney, was responsible for building Great-West Life's impressive collection of Inuit graphics and Sculptures.
I felt it was only right to name our intrepid Hunter George.
George was carved by Oqaituq in 1969.
I love George's face, particularily his nose which is large and protuberant.
It reminds me of a boxer's nose that is battered and worn by time.
Perhaps George had a mishap with his nose.
The colour of his nose is also darker than the rest of the stone.
Perhaps he has had frostbite or Oqaituq is reminding us that these men face a harsh environment which physically changes them!
Still George has the biggest toothiest grin and his eyes are bright and alert.
He holds his harpoon ready to stab his prey.
Is he happy because he knows he will be feeding his family today?
The Vintage carvings have a joyful spirit that is perhaps a bit more innocence and raw.
