Manasie will be our premier exhibitor at the opening of our brick and mortar Gallery this Saturday, October 12, 2019. This mother and cubs sculpture was specifically made for our Exhibition.
To understand the servitude and significance of Manasie to the Canadian art scene, look to the National Gallery of Canada 🇨🇦 in Ottawa. Several years ago, they devoted their Inuit Pavilion to one of Manasie’s famed large bone carvings which was featured centre stage.
Manasie is the premier Inuit artist when it comes to fashioning the eyes of his creatures! His inlaid eyes “follow you” throughout the room giving the carvings personality and soul. No other artist has mastered the gruelling technique of the inlaid eyes with such finesse and grace. This is Manasie’s raison d’etre and a significant contribution to the world of Inuit art.
Our mother polar bear gathers her offspring and holds them close to her warm body. They are so young and defenceless. Manasie has carved the primal need to protect her cubs, no matter the cost, into this brilliant pure white stone.
Your heart melts.
This is a rare opportunity to become the steward of this joyful carving. Mother and cubs will be the centrepiece of your collection and you will have a Manasie Akpaliapik carving. He is one of the top five Inuit carvers in the world!
