I immediately bonded to this fiesty little hunter.
With feet wide apart, he is firmly planted on the ice.
He stands with club and harpoon in defensive position waiting for the fight to begin.
Nothing or no one will chase him away.
He has a job to do. He has withstood years of harsh weather and difficult living conditions.
He understands that life can be tough.
Do you know someone like this?
The details of his clothing, his facial features, and his harpoon characterize the Gjoa Haven esthetic of depicting real people and animals in their natural setting.
This sculpture is an exemplary example of Uttaq's skill and imagination. He is well known and respected and one of the more prolific Gjoa Haven artists.
