First generation Inuit artists are an important part of Inuit history.
These people are usually the last of the Inuit who lived a traditional life style ie. living in igloos in winter and skin tents in summer. They lived off the land, hunting and fishing to provide food and make clothing. Jimmy Iqaluq is one of our senior Master Carvers. He told me he lived in an igloo until he was 14. 

Because of the rarity of these first generation pieces and because their carvers were true pioneers in the world of Inuit art, I have made Generations, a CURATOR'S CHOICE.

Tuna Iqulik's minimalistic style is legendary.

Our appraisals of his work, indicate that his work is highly valued.

Generations found its way back to the Coop and I was fortunate to find it for the Gallery.

There may still be a few of Tuna's unsold pieces that are selling as new pieces.

This means that Generations is a solid investment. 

It will easily double in value in less than five years.

I love the minimalist style of the first generation Inuit carvers.

These artists used only hand tools. 

To forge a sculpture from stone with hammers and chisels was physically demanding and time consuming.

Generations is a striking traditional piece that depicts many faces, perhaps Tuna's family. 

When I see these older carvings, I am reminded of the hard lives of the traditional Inuit and the spirit that gave them resilience and a love of nature.

Tuna was one of Baker's Lake most famous artists.  His art has been featured in numerous Inuit art magazines, history books, and Exhibitions.
