Vintage Masterpiece! Museum quality Carving!
Knot What You Were Expecting is what happened when I first saw this "special" carving.
I was so engrossed in the beautifully constructed sealskin clothes, that I completely overlooked the fact that Kalaa carved this doll from wood!
Trees are scarce in the Canadian Arctic which accounts for the fact that wooden carvings are rare.
Greenland has a growing population of birch, alder, mountain ash and willow because of planting that began in the 1890s.
Knot's hat and mukluks are meticulously crafted leather.
His "baton" is likely a club used for protection or hunting.
He is a stoic and up right fellow!
The Inuit and Eskimos have fashioned dolls usually as a toy for centuries.
Do you have any dolls in your Inuit art collection or perhaps you know a doll collector who would welcome this one of a kind piece into their collection?
