Masterpiece Carving! Extraordinary Sculpture!
Carvings like Phinnaeus are surprisingly rare.
In an instant, you "know" you are in the presence of greatness.
Davidee Parr's inventiveness is his greatness; his inventiveness has resulted in this gift of Phinnaeus the muskox.
There is nothing ordinary about this carving.
The expected large curved horns, the long flowing hair, the exaggerated back hump, the hidden legs.... not there.
Parr has used his artistic license to redefine his muskox.
The most obvious changes are the almost absent horns, the short blonde hair and the unusually bent legs.
Perhaps you are a traditionalist and Phinnaeus isn't your cup of tea.
What I admire in artists like Parr, is their desire to find new levels of possibility.
